Refrigerated Shipping Containers

ContainerCo has a variety of refrigerated containers, available for rent or purchase across New Zealand. Known as “reefers,” these containers are ideal for walk-in coolers, frozen storage, or transporting temperature-sensitive goods.

Looking for temperature-controlled storage or transport?

ContainerCo has a wide range of refrigerated shipping containers available, for either rent or sale, across New Zealand.

Also known as “reefers”, these purpose-built containers are perfect to use as walk-in coolers, frozen storage or general temperature-controlled spaces to transport goods between locations.

We offer 10-foot, 20-foot and 40-foot reefers. You can secure any of these options on either a short or long-term lease, or to purchase and own for yourself. To keep your items cool and secure, ContainerCo is your go-to source for high quality refrigeration.

ContainerCo offers three different types of reefer shipping containers to suit your business requirements.

Single Phase Reefers

These units are 20 feet in container dimension and require a 15A plug. They offer a chilled and frozen range between -20℃ and +10℃ and offer a loading capacity of 21m³.

They have a built-in personnel door with curtains, plus a safety release from the inside which ensures ease of access. The benefit of the Single Phase unit is that it’s cheaper to run – allowing you to save on both space and cost at the same time.

Three-Phase Reefers (20-Foot)

The other style of reefer shipping unit is the Three Phase container freezer, which comes in both 20-foot and 40-foot dimensions.

The 20-foot, Three Phase Containers require a 32A four-pin plug and boast a loading capacity of 28m³. They provide a wider temperature range between -40℃ and +30℃.

Three-Phase Reefers (40-Foot)

The 40-foot, Three Phase units require either a four-pin or five-pin plug and have a loading capacity of 67m³.

Its temperature range is between -30℃ and +30℃.

Modified Reefers

ContainerCo also offers Modified Reefers, which is a specially modified shipping container that is customised to meet the specific requirements you’re after. These might include:

  • Dehydration / drying rooms
  • Blast freezers and chillers
  • 50 / 50 rooms that are half-freezer, half-chiller
  • Processing rooms

Frequently asked questions

If your reefer breaks down, call us for free on 0508 423 269 and we’ll get someone to your location as soon as possible to fix your reefer. We offer a 24/7 breakdown support service, because we understand how important the goods inside your container are.
The type of reefer that you either hire or purchase will depend on your requirements.

For example, our Three Phase containers can fit more products inside, they’re also capable of reaching much lower temperatures than the Single Phase units. However, the latter containers are much cheaper to run and will still reach temperatures of  -20℃.

If you’re having trouble deciding which reefer best meets your requirements, give our team a call and we’ll be happy to help you decide.
The Single Phase reefer requires a 15A PDL plug. We recommend having the circuit protected by a 20A D curve circuit breaker - anything less might cause a tripping hazard.
The leads on our reefers are approximately 15 metres long. For the Single Phase reefers, we wouldn’t recommend using extension leads - these will commonly cause a voltage drop which results in the lead and plug burning out.
